About

My artistic mission is to embrace and represent the rich tapestry of human diversity through my art, showcasing a spectrum of body types, ethnic backgrounds, and sexual orientations. While the essence of my work delves into the realm of women's issues, I recognize these concerns are not limited to those assigned female at birth or those who identify as female. It is my earnest endeavor to encompass all individuals in my artistic narrative.

Previously, my portrayal of diverse ethnicities was an organic element of my storytelling. However, now understand the importance of a deliberate approach. As an artist and a member of the human family, I cannot afford to remain passive. With the growth of my portfolio, you can anticipate a more pronounced representation of the diversity I am committed to.

A Des Moines, IA, native, I am a proud alumnus of Grand View University, holding Bachelor's degrees in Visual Arts, Graphic Design, and Creative & Performing Arts. My career spans over 15 years as a professional artist, during which I have honed my craft independently and in collaboration, as a painter, illustrator, muralist, and designer.

My creative inspiration is drawn from my background in theatrical design, classical literary illustrations, and explorations of the female psyche. I am influenced by the works of Leslie Bell, Olidon Redon, Alphonse Mucha, and Marc Chagall, whose mastery in portraying the human form, use of emotive color, and ethereal style resonates with my artistic vision.

Mediums of choice range from canvas and linen to paper, wood panels, and raw wood, each selected for its unique interaction with my materials. The fine line quality is best achieved on paper and wood, beginning with graphite sketches, followed by the application of acrylic paint. The degree of color saturation varies with the medium; wood and paper offer greater absorption, while canvas provides a surface where the paint floats on the substrate. Colored pencils are used for adding intricate details, enhancing the illustrative quality of my work.

Beyond the brush, my life is enriched by my loveable house hippo and pibble Lulu Liz Lemon, bicycling on Iowa’s gorgeous paths, live music, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and Dungeons & Dragons. These personal passions infuse my art with authenticity and vitality, reflecting the multifaceted individual I am.
