This is one of my favorite paintings. I love the light freckling on the strawberry blonde and how it ties into the spots on the coi.
My works are inspired by my theatrical design education, classic literary illustrations, and the female psyche. Influences include Leslie Bell, Olidon Redon, Alphonse Mucha, and Marc Chagall. These artists have a delicate touch with the human form, emotional color, and a nebulous style that I find inspirational.
Works are on canvas, linen, paper, wood panels and raw wood. The paper and wood allows for a finer line quality. The initial drawing is done with graphite then color is added with acrylic paint. The saturation of color depends on the surface. Wood and paper are more absorbant whilst the paint floats on the surface of the canvas. To reinforce my illustrative quality I utilize colored pencils for the detailed areas.
I’ve shown as far away as Houston, Texas and as close as Artfest Midwest, exactly a mile from my home. I am excited to have both local and international collectors of my work. Queensland, Austrailia seems to really enjoy my fierce female figures on harsh landscapes.
I was born and raised in Des Moines, IA. and graduated Grand View University with BA’s in Visual Arts, Graphic Design, and Creative & Performing Arts. For over a decade, I have worked as a professional artist working both independently and collaboratively as a painter, illustrator, muralist and designer.
My personal passions include my dog Regina, the outdoors, biking, baking, music, yoga, dresses, and Star Trek.
